A thousand deaths empower me...

Saturday, February 6

What is a year?

A star, drawing a few hundred circles.
Shadows, in an endless dance from side to side.
The moon and the sun, taking turns in the sky,
Sometimes even sharing it.

A number, adding up to measure
A finite distance from the past
To make sense of a life, a milestone,
A movement from what was then.

A cycle of clasped hands and slipping fingers,
Hi's, hello's and goodbye's,
Awakenings and submergence,
Truths embraced and lies left behind.

A priceless gift, a shining gem
To take hold, to own, to sow and reap
A blazing ray of hope for the unseen
The unknown, the unimaginable.
